Using the 10/01/23 MDS 3.0 User’s Manual, attendees will review timing and lookback periods for each section reflected for Medicare A 5-Day, Prospective Payment System (PPS) Discharge, and Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) Item Sets and the coding instructions for each coding opportunity. This webinar will also review common questions such as who completes Section GG, how to gather the information necessary to assign residents to the appropriate case mix category given the transition from Section G to Section GG, and how to develop a GG Score for Nursing Component Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) levels.

Objectives: At the completion of the training, the participant will be able to: 

  1.  Identify which team member should complete the assessments for Section GG.
  2.  Identify each subset of Section GG.
  3.  Accurately code the assessment for Section GG Items.
  4.  Describe the importance of accurate assessment.
  5.  Provide accurate coding definitions.
  6.  Develop a GG Score to apply to the Nursing Component levels for DHHS Medicaid.

Audience: This program is appropriate for administrators, owners, directors, directors of nursing, MDS coordinators, nurses, social services, rehabilitation, dietary, and activities staff in skilled nursing facilities.
