Content: The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program is a progressive program that is based on the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. Participants move from the Bronze level, to Silver, and then ultimately to Gold. The developmental nature of this program allows facilities to put processes and systems in place to improve the care and service to residents.

Bring your teams and join us for a Quality Award workshop facilitated by Cathy Bergland. Cathy has facilitated several sessions for NHCA and is well-received for her knowledgeable and practical approach. She is a trainer, judge, and examiner for the Quality Award Program, as well as the Chair of the Quality Award Board.

In this two-day, in-person workshop participants will examine the requirements and draft initial framework of the AHCA/NCAL Gold National Quality Award Application for award or renewal period. Participants will leave the workshop with a better understanding of what is required for the Gold Quality Award process. In building on the Silver recognition, participants will see how what is written can be a “management document,” and not just an application.

Objectives: At the completion of the training, the participant will be able to:

  1. Understand the Gold application technical requirements and criteria
  2. Sharpen the skills for describing processes and how these approaches can serve as a management document, not just an application
  3. Learn techniques for effectively using and presenting results
  4. Understand the importance of systematic evaluation and improvement and how to describe the steps
  5. Develop a basic understanding of the scoring guidelines
  6. Draft a plan for writing and reviewing the first draft of your application
  7. Take advantage of the opportunity to receive help with your specific application questions

Audience: This program is appropriate for all staff in assisted living and nursing facilities who have already obtained Bronze and Silver National Quality Awards within the last three years. Facilities are encouraged to send at least three team members to this training.

Facilitator: Cathy A. Bergland (MBA, LNHA) AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board of Overseers, Trainer and Judge; Lead Consultant and Trainer, CB Leadership Group
