The Nebraska Health Care Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Cars for Caregivers program to help individuals who work in Nebraska Nursing Facility Association and Nebraska Assisted Living Association member facilities overcome barriers to remaining employed, such as reliable transportation. NHCF’s Cars for Caregivers program, administered by Chariots4Hope, can help recipients get a vehicle so they can continue caring for seniors.

PRELIMINARY CRITERIA 

• Employed for at least one year at a Nebraska Nursing Facility Association or Nebraska Assisted Living Association member facility
• Hold a valid driver's license
• Agree to complete Chariots4Hope's Drive4Success classes
• Must have a discretionary income of $400 or more (the money you have left over after paying taxes and essential living expenses)
• Within income guidelines:

TO APPLY AS A PARTICIPANT 

If transportation is making it difficult for you to maintain employment at your current NNFA/NALA member facility, you are encouraged to complete the preliminary application. Only you, as the applicant, may submit it; submissions on your behalf are not permitted.

After submission, NHCF will verify your employment with your facility. Qualified applications will then be forwarded to Chariots4Hope for further processing.

Please note: Submitting the preliminary application is only the first step. Vehicle awards are not guaranteed. Qualified applications will be reviewed by Chariots4Hope for consideration based on availability and program requirements.

TO REFER A TEAM MEMBER 

If you are a facility administrator, please share this information with a team member whose values and circumstances align with the intent of the program, who demonstrates a strong commitment to serving your residents, and whom you would like to retain within your facility. You may not apply on the individual’s behalf.

This program is made possible by donor contributions of both funds and vehicles.

• Donate a vehicle – To donate a vehicle to the Nebraska Health Care Foundation Cars for Caregivers program, contact Chariots4Hope and indicate “Cars for Caregivers” in your inquiry.

• Donate funds – Funds contributed to the Nebraska Health Care Foundation Cars for Caregivers Program will be directed toward the purchase of a vehicle, maintenance costs, and/or participant training. Give at nehca.org/CarsForCaregiversGIVE.
