It is designed to meet the training requirements of both federal and Nebraska laws for nursing assistants working in a licensed nursing facility. Course Duration:  76-Hour Training Program (6.5 credits)
40 online hours and 36 in-person preceptor hours

NHCLC is an affiliate of Nebraska Health Care Association.

Program Content: This program is designed to train the beginning nursing assistant to provide safe, effective, and caring services to the patients of any health care setting. It is designed to meet the training requirements of both federal and Nebraska laws for nursing assistants working in a licensed nursing facility. The skills and knowledge contained in this material can be adapted for any health care or residential setting.

Program Objectives: At the completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the work setting and job responsibilities of the nursing assistant. Concepts include communication, safety precautions, and emergency care.
  2. Apply skills and principles used in the role of the nursing assistant to aid patients to meet their basic physical and safety needs.
  3. Explore the nursing assistant’s role in meeting love and belonging, self-esteem, and self-actualization needs of the patient.

College Credit: 6.5 college credit hours can be requested upon successful completion of the course.  See the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center Education Catalog for credit requirements. 

Evaluations: Please provide feedback on the course by completing the evaluation. An evaluation form will be provided to students at the end of the program.

Attendance and Cancellation: Attendance of the first 16 hours of class is mandatory, and students must complete at least 50 percent of the course to be eligible for make-up days. An incomplete is given until time and content are made up. Refer to nehca.org for information related to substitutions, cancellations, and refunds.

Online Training Schedule: Online training begins June 15, 2026, for four weeks. Full class deadlines will be provided in the welcome section of your course. Students will receive a welcome email within 24 hours after registering for the course.

Training Manual and Workbook: Basic Nursing Assistant Training Manual (Sixth Edition), published by Nebraska Health Care Association, is required for those registering for the Basic Nursing Assistant program. For eBooks and fees, see pricing above. eBooks are included online in the learning platform.

Scholarships: Information and application can be found online.

State Exam: Additional state exam fees apply: $50 written and $50 clinical. A student must successfully pass the course to be eligible to register for the state exam. A student must successfully pass both the written and clinical state exams to be placed on the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services registry.
